Unless they’re historic bed and breakfast inns, most hotels are modern and up-to-date, boasting high speed internet, sound wave alarm clocks and versatile hangers, among other hotel supplies. If you’re like most people who work in hotels and handle the amenities, in some capacity, on a daily basis, after a while you might not notice the details anymore. As with most day-to-day tasks, buying hotel supplies and amenities can become routine especially when you’re tasked with balancing budgetary constraints, style needs and guest preferences. If hotel supplies such as towels, ice buckets and bed spreads become dated, hotels can become dated, too, and get lost amongst the competition.

Hotels that are successful long-term attribute their success, in part, to their ability to remain relevant which means they know themselves and their brand identity. They also know the hotels near them and what makes them stand out. When you think about your hotel, what do people pay for? Is your service exceptional?

Maybe the views are amazing and the hotel supplies and amenities are unique. If luxury and convenience define your business, plush robes and bed linens and complimentary breakfast would be relevant hotel supplies and amenities. To maintain their place among the masses, hotels must keep current with trends to remain competitive and relevant.

Timeliness very likely isn’t a high priority for you or anybody else who works in hotels. However, if hotels want to maintain occupancy rates, attract new business and offer a great overall experience ensuring that everything from the amenities and hotel supplies to the color palettes and furniture are current and inviting is paramount. Have you ever gotten a room in a modern hotel and, upon walking into the room itself, felt like you traveled in time back to the early 1990s or worse, and it’s not a historic hotel? While it might not affect the visit, most people think less of hotels that are dated, especially when the amenities, hotel supplies and conveniences one would expect are either not offered or unavailable during their stay.

Whether you’re working for an eclectic bed and breakfast or a posh spa resort, conveying value to your guests is important. Quality amenities and hotel supplies, amazing views, superb locations and complimentary meals or snacks all convey the “we’re trying to maximize your dollar” message. It’s important, especially when consumers of every stripe are counting their pennies and paying more attention to what they’re getting for their money than ever before. While hotel supplies and amenities are important components of hotels, they aren’t everything. The cleanliness of your hotel, a responsive staff, spacious guest rooms and modern furnishings all play important roles in the overall guest experience.

Being and remaining competitive in the hospitality industry is no small feat. Maintaining your edge by providing quality hotel supplies and amenities helps you as the competition among hotels is stiff almost everywhere. When people feel like their opinion matters, when they see updated fixtures, renovations that modernize hotels and high quality hotel supplies, they know they’ve been heard which typically translates into more business for you. That said, focused on details though you might be, it’s important that those same details remain fresh and relevant to both guest and hotel alike.

It’s one of the most awe-inspiring sights in Europe: Mont Blanc. Trekking to its iconic summit is a dream for many – and it’s no mean feat, at 4,810 metres. On average, about 20,000 people ascend its summit every year, but their success is dependent on good mountaineering and thorough training. The mountain still presents an incredibly testing challenge, and those who aspire to reaching the top need to be well prepared in body and mind. Acclimatisation treks are vital, as is immersing yourself in expert advice. Reading accounts by those who have made the journey can teach you a lot, as well as inspiring you, and learning about those who have gone before will help you to understand both the mountain and the legacy of its historic champions. Here are some of the people who have paved the way for those who go Mont Blanc trekking today.

Jacques Balmat and Michel Paccard

The first ascent to be recorded in the history of Mont Blanc trekking came about after the Genevan aristocrat Horace-Benedict de Saussure offered a reward for a successful attempt. In 1786, Jacques Balmat and Michel Paccard set off, summiting on August 8. Balmat, a mountaineer and hunter from Sardinia, was given the title, le Mont Blanc, by Sardinia’s king in honour of his achievement. Paccard was a doctor whose scientific passion and curiosity led him to dream of taking a barometer reading at the great mountain’s summit. Their ascent went down in history as an unprecedented feat of strength, perseverance and daring – they went carrying unwieldy scientific materials, and had no ropes or ice axes. Their mission succeeded where others had failed, and all who reach the summit walk in their footsteps.

Maria Paradis and Henriette d’Angeville

The legacy of Mont Blank trekking is especially fascinating in the historical context of women’s mountaineering. Today, gender is not a barrier for aspiring climbers, but this was far from the case in the 18th and 19th centuries. Maria Paradis was the first woman to climb to the top. She was a maid from Chamonix, and accompanied one of Balmat’s later expeditions in 1808. It was not an easy ascent for her, but she persevered and the party reached the top on July 14. Maria de Mont Blanc, as she became known, did not climb again after that, but she championed women climbers thereafter. When, 30 years later, Henriette d’Angeville became the second woman to ascend the summit, Paradis attended the celebration of her successful return to personally congratulate her. D’Angeville, a French woman from an aristocratic background, was passionate about walking and had long dreamed of Mont Blanc trekking. She realised her dream in 1838, and went on to climb 21 more mountains and found a museum of mineralogy. Today’s climbers, whether male or female, can take inspiration from these pioneering women.

More and more people are rediscovering the beauty of the UK countryside and beaches with every passing day. This year, studies show that the numbers of groups holidays bookings are much higher as compared to last year and is expected to keep rising. The increase has been well over 20% and the encouraging aspect is that more than 15% of the customers surveyed feel that they get better value for money when they spend time at holiday parks through groups holidays packages at holiday parks.

Yes, the global economic situation remains far from encouraging and is one of the main reasons for people reticent to take expensive overseas trips. Add this to boring and elaborate security procedures, exasperating wait times and the monotony of having to endure tasteless accommodation as well as food and you have enough reasons to stay within UK itself.

Indeed, UK is home to some of the best countryside locations and pristine beaches. Over 70 of them have been awarded with the Blue Flag, which tells you that you have very attractive options to choose from. Holiday operators over the years have built an impressive dossier of well managed holiday parks where you get the best of caravan holiday homes. These are well furnished and offer you the flexibility of self catering arrangements so that you do not miss your home food.

Holiday operators, anticipating a much larger turnout next year are making more investments in the form of fresh accommodation, improvements to indoor as well as swimming pools, adding attractions like a Lazy River, golf courses and sports courts. They are also spending on improving landscaping at these parks to make them more enticing to visitors and all these efforts over the last couple of years have borne fruit.

Some of the more reputed and experienced holiday park operators are already taking arrangements to the next level by adding sports like fencing, archery and other Olympic sports to ensure that kids have a blast when they come to such parks. These operators have been quick to recognise that kids are great drivers of such short vacation trysts for families and are doing everything they can to sustain their interest.

Those of you who are very environment conscious and would like eco friendly arrangements would be happy to know that some of these parks now have the concept of electric vehicles plying between points within the park. You can thus take a tour of the park at leisure and secure in the knowledge that you are not spoiling the environment. This just goes to show the level of understanding and appreciation for customer interests on the part of these holiday operators.

Groups holidays packages organised by reputed holiday operators at their holiday parks stand out due to the increasing customisation that these operators are able to manage for groups. You can have a nice family reunion or an outing with your friends at these parks and come back rejuvenated.

Take a guess? Collaboration, Proven, Open, Scalable, etc.? Nope. “Solution” is the most overused word today in marketing technology products. Why? I’ve identified two main reasons which I’ll describe later. However, I’ll be the first to say that I have contributed to the solution epidemic. Additionally, I’ve actively marketed a product with the word “solutions” in its product name (Sabre Business Travel Solutions), and have referred to my company’s products as solutions as well. However, a couple of years ago when I received a press release from a new partner and realized that “solution/s” was mentioned 17 times, I diagnosed this epidemic and I began my research.

The Two Main Reasons for the Solution Epidemic:

1) Lack of Knowledge and Understanding

My first diagnosis is that technical marketing personnel either don’t fully understand the technology or cannot succinctly articulate their products or services. So, instead they refer to their products as solutions. They have not done justice and many times missed the opportunity to explain to their readers (mainly prospects, customers and media) what the product is and does. It is hard enough to get your products in front of your target market, so why blow it when you get there? Tell your readers exactly what you have.

Here’s an example: One of the largest ERP’s in the world recently launched a new product with the word “Solutions” in the name. The reason why I sat down and wrote this article was because I needed to know basic information about this product in terms of what it actually does. I read all the available marketing material (e.g., Web site content, marketing collateral, presentation with notes, etc.) on this new solution. I’m still scratching my head on what it does (and I’m not alone). The word solution is used so many times that I’m thinking they don’t know what the product does either.

Nonetheless, get smart about your products and services. Call it an application, system, tool, or something instead of solution. Ask a lot of questions until you have the knowledge and can incorporate it into your marketing messaging and materials. As with my ERP example, if the product seems to have no direction, then help define one. If it’s comprised of multiple functional pieces then explain that so the reader understands what it includes. Sharpen your knowledge and gain a better understanding of your products versus taking the easy way out and using “solution” to describe your product. Which brings me to the second reason – we are lazy.

2) Laziness

Yes, we are all lazy. Our peers in Biotech marketing need to work a lot harder than us in order to communicate their products. They just can’t continue to say that their biotech solutions will revolutionize the way medical science will evolve. In many cases, they have to define the science and then be able to communicate what their technology does.

If we are on staff or hired consultants/marketing firm, it is our job to help convey who the company is and what their products and services do. And, I’m telling you that by using the word solutions early on in your descriptions and key messages – you’re not working hard enough. Also, don’t type the word solution and then click on your Thesaurus and try and find a similar word. You will have to get smart and work hard to eliminate solutions from your marketing literature.

When should you use the word Solutions?
Ok, by now you may be pulling out your marketing material and circling the number of times the word solution appears. There are times when it is “ok” to use the word solution. When you refer to your competition, use the word solution instead of naming their product. You know the old PR rule; never mention your competition by name in an interview with the media, etc. You don’t want to give them any free publicity.

You need to follow this as well in your writing. If you’ve done an excellent job at explaining your products upfront and created a strong visual with the reader, he or she can identify what you offer. Then you can throw in a casual solution to assist you in summarizing your offerings.

Since I diagnosed what I call the solution epidemic, I’ve shared it with my peers and staff. The goal was to heighten awareness of this epidemic and help out a fellow marketing peer avoid this trap. Bottom line, as technical marketing experts we have a responsibility to communicate what our product is and does – early and often. If we can successfully explain what our product is, how it benefits the customer and answer questions regarding its features – within our array of marketing material, we will differentiate ourselves from the competition and ultimately lead to more sales. Which is the reason why we have marketing positions, right?

There is and always will be big money in the travel industry. Therefore, if you want to make money in a business that has tested successful even in the worst of times, consider earning an income in travel. And more specifically, in Corporate Travel.

As with any good business, it is good to focus on a specific niche market. Travel itself is far too broad and will be harder to capture sales if you are not specific. Being focused on a niche market will allow you to also have less competition and be more likely to succeed based on your individual efforts. Because larger and older companies most likely already have their own travel solutions, you will want to focus the bulk of your efforts on new companies and businesses that have a gap you can fill.

This does not mean you should not go after the big companies too. For example, you might discover a large company that is looking to replace their previous travel service for whatever reason. Regardless of your approach, you can make a good income with the right effort and following a business pattern that others have used. Do your research and learn how companies come across travel solutions and how you might improve on their needs. Remember to model other successful travel companies in order to keep from making the same mistakes they made. Even working in a few companies prior to starting your own business will provide you with a wealth of knowledge and skills you might not have thought about.

Europe is a continent with 39 nations and countless different cultures that aren’t defined by mere political zones. Within countries you can experience a wide variety of different foods, languages and peoples. Whether you’re planning on heading to icy Scandinavia or the sunny Mediterranean, you should be prepared to see and do things that you have never done before. Here are some basics to help you prepare for the trip of a lifetime.

1. Visas and Travel Guidelines: Before you buy your Europe airline tickets, it’s important to look at a country’s entry requirements. Many nations require visas. While the process can be tedious and bureaucratic, it is necessary and well worth it. Make sure that your passport is current, and will not expire during your trip. Make photocopies of your passport and visa, just in case something happens to the original. To ensure that these matters are taken care of before you leave will save you time and money in the event that something goes wrong.

2. Language: Although many Europeans speak English, chances are that most of the people you run into – unless you’re going to England, Ireland, or Scotland – do not. It is important to be prepared to communicate without being understood in your native tongue. As a result, it can be helpful to bring a handbook of common words and phrases of the foreign language. If there is something that you want to communicate, but do not have the vocabulary, remember that most language is non-verbal. Gesticulations and pointing can often greatly help to convey an idea where words cannot.

3. Packing: These days you have to pay extra to pack luggage on the plane. Save your money for food and fun when you arrive, and pack light. A pair of comfortable jeans, maybe some nice shirts if you go out for a luxurious dinner, and some comfortable sneakers are really all you need. It’s better to pack a few essentials than be burdened with heavy luggage. You also have to be responsible for more if you pack a lot. And going with less gives you more space to store what you bring home (Europe has great deals on certain items that are impossible to find in the U.S.).

4. Sights: Sure you want to see all of the most famous sights that a country can offer, but there are also many hidden gems that are still worth seeing. Do your research in travel books, online newspaper travel sections, or talk to your local Brooklyn travel agency about the specific country or countries you are visiting to get some more information.

5. Make sure that you have a good camera because you will want to be able to remember in detail where you were, and what you did. Keeping a daily journal of your activities can also be helpful.

6. Spontaneity: Travel is all about seeing and doing new things. Don’t be afraid to do something you wouldn’t normally do. This trip may provide you with once in a lifetime opportunities! But don’t go too crazy – remember, always trust your gut if you’re unsure of what to do.

Customer retention is vital for all airlines, as they seek to encourage passengers to remain loyal when booking their next flights. However, with fierce competition within the sector, each airline must work hard to improve the flying experience for their passengers in order to build long term relationship.

From in-flight movies and TV shows to audio books and music, there are lots of options available to airlines wanting to entertain their passengers. Here are 10 benefits to airlines investing in a quality in-flight entertainment solution.

1. By providing passengers with an enjoyable in-flight experience, they are more likely to use your airline in the future. A good in-flight movie, for example, can go a long way to helping passengers thoroughly enjoy their journey.

2. As well as rebooking with you in the future, a happy passenger may also recommend your airline to friends, relatives or associates within their social network.

3. On the flipside, passengers may never use or recommend your airline again if their experience was a negative one. Poor in-flight entertainment could make a major contribution to low levels of satisfaction.

4. If any passengers are nervous fliers, an interesting and diverse entertainment offering will help to distract them from their concerns and enjoy the flight.

5. Where flights are particularly long, passengers can become tired and restless. However, a good in-flight entertainment package will help focus their attention and make the flight time feel much shorter.

6. It is important to recognise that not all passengers want to be entertained; some will want rest and relaxation during the flight. An excellent solution is pzizz, a new system designed to help passengers relax and sleep during flights.

7. in-flight entertainment, with its on-screen opportunities, may be the perfect medium for third party advertisers and could help your airline to maximise its on-board revenue potential.

8. Your airline could also use the on-screen opportunities to promote its range of duty free goods, food and beverages to help maximise sales.

9. Rental of headsets to passengers so they can enjoy in-flight entertainment can also prove to be a useful source of revenue.

10. Airlines are now generating even more income by providing rentable portable entertainment systems, such as the Sony PSP, which allow passengers to play in-flight games and watch movies and TV shows.

It’s natural for you not to associate the word stress with vacation, after all, most people go on vacation thinking it will relieve their stress, not add to it. However, as with many happy moments in life, stress can always find a way to creep in an attempt to destroy even the most joyful moments, from weddings to birthday parties. There will always be those moments when we all see that “even the best laid plans of mice and men often go away”, as John Steinbeck wrote in his Nobel Prize-winning book, and traveling, be it even for a vacation that you really look forward to, is one of those types of plan where anything can happen along the way which might challenge your happy disposition. Vacation stress occurs frequently, amongst couples, family members and even the best of friends. It can be very helpful for you to take a really good look at your planning strategy so that you can examine areas where you can avoid the pitfalls and start managing your travel stress before you even leave so that your vacation can be full of more joy. If you start of with a good plan now, you will have less surprises later, and even if something unexpected does arise, you will be well-equiped with the right tools to handle the situation.

The Planning Phase

You can plan around vacation stress so that you are better prepared, so focus on the details of your vacation plans. You can use the internet to help you, although this can get hectic, given the fact that the internet offers so many options for you to choose from. It’s great! But also very time-consuming. Things that used to be so simple are now so complex given the creation of the internet. You want to go to Seattle? Well there are many ways to do it. This is where you pull out your toolbox of positive thoughts and let the benefits of laughter help you. You see, if you can laugh at these mind-boggling aspects of the internet, (or anything, for that matter) rather than feel overwhelmed by them, your mind will be lighter while going thru the thought process of choosing what’s right for you. This is just one aspect of the benefits of incorporating laughter therapy into everyday experiences. After all, laughter is free, but your vacation isn’t, so why not try some new tools to deal with the stress of vacation planning? Even if you go to your tried and trusted travel agent, you will surely be given many options in the planning phase, so why not try a new perspective?

You’ve Found Your Destination And Arrived, Now What?

Another tool that will undoubtedly help you is to maintain your positive outlook during your travels and upon arrival at your destination. Most likely, you could benefit from a good nap, so think about that plush, comfortable bed you will be sleeping or those delicious chocolates by your bedside. These positive thoughts will improve your disposition while standing in the line at the airport. Especially useful if your plane is delayed. If you try practicing some positive thought processes during stressful moments, you’re going to have a better time.

You’re Unpacking But Did You Pack Ample Optimism?

Optimism is another great tool to help you as you’re off to manage the stresses of checking in, car rentals, the sudden realization that you forgot your swimsuit at home. Vacation stress can try to sneak into your life in a many number of ways, so it’s good to your optimism levels high precisely for these moments. Find something to laugh at and hold onto it because it will help you to protect your mood when inconveniences pop up.

Once Returning Home

You’ve had a wonderful time on your vacation, but how do you get back into your old routines smoothly? Reorganizing, Unpacking, and even scheduling a meal can be stressful, especially if you need to go to the grocery store immediately. This is where you let the great memories of your lovely vacation accompany you in everything you do. The negativity will take a back seat if you determine to let optimism and the positive thoughts from the great time you’ve had on your fabulous vacation prevail!

When you contacted your local Brooklyn travel agency, Europe is actually one of the best and most diverse places you could have chosen for travel. It doesn’t matter if you are alone, with a loved one, or with your family, there are so many things to do and see! Plus, if you bought Europe airline tickets from a good travel agency, you probably got a really great price, which means now you can spend the money where it should rightfully be spent on your vacation! Here are a few options for you to choose from as far as attractions, hotels, and restaurants go.

Barcelona, Spain

If you want to travel to a very metropolitan area, Barcelona is the place to go. Spain in particular has one of the busiest ports in the Mediterranean and is always packed to the brim with people, especially at the country’s many beautiful attractions and restaurants. If you love architecture, you absolutely have to visit Antoni Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia church and Casa Batllo, both of which are known for their incredible construction.

On the other hand, if you’re interested in something a little more cathartic such as shopping, you should put Museu del Calcat museum on your list believe it or not, this museum contains nothing but shoes! If you are looking for a few nice restaurants to sample, travelers love Alba Granados, Can Culleretes, La Bella Napoli and Casa Leopoldo! As for hotels, try Hostal Central (budget), Barcelona Center (mid range), and Hotel Condes de Barcelona (top range).

Prague, Czech Republic

Prague is one of the Europe’s loveliest cities. The atmosphere, the scenery, the buildings ; even the sky here is beautiful. Prague is known as Golden Prague, and with good reason! This city is a glittering gem of architecture and art, located in the heart of Europe. It’s been home to astronomers, artists and kings alike. If you like art, music, festivals and food, this is going to be a great fit for you! If you are a big foodie like I am, and you love wine, you have to visit Ambiente Restaurante Brasileiro, U Neklana and Cafe Savoy. If sightseeing is more your thing, however, you can visit Aircraft Museum, Charles University Botanical Garden or Charles Bridge!

Hotels that could be included in your trip include Hotel Fortuna Luna (budget), Hotel Da Vinci (mid range), and Park Hotel Praha (top range).

Paris, France

It’s hard to imagine a trip to Europe without Paris. Yes, this is the city of love, but it’s also the city of great food, incredible wines and truly fantastic architecture. I’ve been to the Louvre several times and it is still to this day my favorite place to go in Paris. This grand city might be dubbed the City Of Love, but in reality it’s The City Of Lights and once you get here you will understand why! Now that you are here you have to visit all the popular hot spots such as The Louvre, Basilique de St-Denis, Notre Dame and of course the Eiffel Tower.

Now if you want good food, Paris offers it all, but I have to recommend you stick with French food at Au Pied de Cochon, Charlot, Roi des Coquillages, Le Relais Gascon and Chez Nicos! As for hotels, consider Hotel Bonsejour Montmartre (budget), Hotel Beaumarchais, (mid range), or Hotel La Demeure (top end).

Also, if you got Europe airline tickets this time from your Brooklyn travel agency, you should go there the next time as well and check out cheap flights to Israel, which is another amazing place to visit. But for now, bon voyage and enjoy Europe!
